Recently I shared a sermon online called, “Standing in the storm”. In that particular sermon I shared about the winds of fear and faith. (I will share the link below, if you want to take a look). But it was the wind that caught my attention, in the account of the wise man building his house upon a solid and sure foundation and that of Peter walking on the water. Both telling examples of how the wind can effect change in our life.
This morning, I sit in the quietness of our home listening to the wind. I felt the tugging of the Holy Spirit to get up,listen and write. Don’t you just love His whispers? He has something to say. Oh how I love that time with Him. Often He speaks to me in just one word and today is no different. Today His word is Wind. But this wind is like no other wind, it is the wind of the Holy Spirit. As I read the account in Acts 2, “When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. 2 Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting .”
Getting alone with God to hear His voice over all else is so vital in our journey with Him. The disciples were all together and in one place…their focus and their purpose were as one. When our collective hearts cry becomes, I am desperate for you, He will not disappoint us. It is with that anticipation the winds of the Holy Spirit begins to blow. Suddenly a sound of a violent mighty wind…the Holy Spirit arrives! Has God ever drawn you to a time of waiting, praying and anticipating? During this time of quarantine, I believe God is moving His church, His people together in one mindset.
With the noise of everything going on in our world, we need to hear the sound that is greater then all other sounds. If we only hear the voices or the sounds of this world, it is no wonder fear and despair runs rampant. We need to get our hearts focused on hearing from the Holy Spirit so that He drowns out all other sounds. The circumstances of life can be quite the distraction but when we begin to wait, pray and anticipate His voice He shows up! I love that there is a SUDDENLY! How many times do we need a suddenly in our life?
But this is like no other wind, it is the Holy Spirit. The arrival of the one that will fill the place where they waited and anticipated for ten days. As I type I can hear the the sound of the wind forcing it’s way through the trees yet rising above it all is the subtle sounds of the wind chimes. The wind is a force of nature that changes all that it comes in contact with. The Holy Spirit will certainly change you too. He has a way of filling that place in us where we thought no one could change. He has a way to cause change in us. All those in Acts 2 were not the same after they experienced that mighty rushing wind. They were changed. They were changed to advance the Kingdom of God.
With all that is going on in this world ,seek Him, begin to wait, pray and anticipate what God has for you. This pandemic will certainly change this world. We will never be able to go back to the way we use to do things. We are forever changed. But greater than that, we need to anticipate the sound of the mighty wind – the Holy Spirit. It is my prayer for you today that you wait, pray and anticipate the winds of the Holy Spirit to move in your life in such a way that you are forever changed. We know that when the natural wind blows, everything that wind touches is changed and at the very least, moved.
The disciples of Acts 2 had an encounter that would certainly change their lives. God is moving now! The wind of the Holy Spirit is stirring in the hearts of His people, if we but yield to His calling.I have a stirring in my heart that God is gathering His church to impact the people for change-a change that we have never seen before. I encourage you today to seek, pray and wait with anticipation. The Winds are a changing and it will be glorious!
