” speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord,” Ephesians 5:19
Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. Colossians 3:16
The last couple blogs we have looked at why singing is so important to believers. Today we look at another reason why singing is significant to the believer. When we sing we build each other up. It is when we come together corporately as a church family, we can lift up the name of Jesus in songs and hymns. Hearing the confessions of faith and the rise of hope around us builds up our faith!
Most faith-filled songs are birthed out of a testimony founded upon the Word of God. There is an anointing on these songs that breaks weights and chains from believers and unbelievers life. Oh the power of a testimony set to music! It brings the presence of Lord. Psalms 22:3 says, ” But You are holy, O You who are enthroned in [the holy place where] the praises of Israel [are offered].” How exciting that God shows up where His praises are offered! Freedom comes when we lift up His name in song. Life’s are changed when we lift up His name in song.
We are presently in a very unique time as a nation and within the world. This time should be causing us to look at our life a little differently. How many of us are re-evaluating our appreciation for church. There is something about coming together to lift the name of Jesus to hear the songs of praise for all that God has done for us. The testimony of our brother or sister set to song, stirs, challenges and builds up our faith. Probably one of the most evangelistic things we can do is to sing the songs of testimony of God’s goodness. When unbelievers come into a good corporate worship it can begin to do a work that no man can orchestrate in the heart of the unbeliever.
Let’s use this time of social distancing, not to be God distancing. In your home let it become that time of singing songs of worship. God will show up in those moments just for you. Singing is so important to God. Personally, I believe singing goes beyond the spoken word of praise and worship. While the spoken word is necessary and needed, singing can take you to a place where the beauty of our Heavenly Father, shows up in all His grandeur.
During this time, individually, set time aside where it is just you and Him. Sing your testimony, declare the thankfulness of your heart and watch how He will show up, to build you up! It will not be time wasted.
I leave you with this. Psalms 96: 1-4, “O sing unto the Lord a new song: sing unto the Lord, all the earth.2 Sing unto the Lord, bless his name; shew forth his salvation from day to day. 3 Declare his glory among the heathen, his wonders among all people.4 For the Lord is great, and greatly to be praised: he is to be feared above all gods.
Until next time sing a song of the moments that can only be explained as…”But God.”
