Psalms 63:7, “For you have been my help, and in the shadow of your wings I will sing for joy.”
Oh how exciting it is to know that we find shelter in the wings of our heavenly Father. When we rely on Him we can rest knowing that we are in the care of the great creator. We can rest in knowing that He is our help in time of trouble. Psalms 5:11 tells us, “Let all who take refuge in you rejoice;let them ever sing for joy, and spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may exult in you.” Aren’t you thankful for that protection? There is great joy that comes when we enter into that place of safety and protection. The circumstances of our life can become like a yoke leading us down a path of despair and defeat. When we enter into that protection we can sing of the goodness of the Lord! But guess what? No matter what our circumstances we sing of the goodness of the Lord! Singing changes our perspective of our situation and begins to lead us to a place of hope.
Singing brings glory to God. Colossians 3 and Ephesians 5 bring this out simply but powerfully, telling us to sing “to God” and “to the Lord” because he is the object of our praise. Ephesians 5:19 says, “singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart.” It is to him and about him that we sing!
Singing, praising God, has a way of bringing our heart, soul, mind and strength together to focus entirely and completely on God. Our praises help get our eyes off the circumstances shifts our focus onto God.
Exalting the Lord through song only gives a slight glimpse of what is taking place and will take place in heaven. Revelation 7:9-10, the Apostle John describes what a slice of our eternity will be like. A great multitude of people from every tribe, various people and languages singing before the Lamb, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!” Oh what a day that will be when my Jesus I shall see….
There is nothing like getting into a place of just you and the Lord singing to him a new song, a song that comes deep within your heart, sing of his faithfulness, sing a song of great joy. In those moments of great joy or perhaps joy unrealized, listen, just listen you may just hear the song He is singing over you.
