I recently started a new adventure, a side gig, if you will. This side gig landed in my lap and so began a journey into uncharted territory. I started teaching English remotely to children in China . It has stretched me in ways I didn’t know I needed. But it has shown me areas I need to be stretched in so I can be reminded that who I am and my abilities come from Him. Circumstances of life can often try to define who we are. Situations, sickness, our past are all things that can shape who we are…if we don’t have a clear understanding not just who we are but whose we are.
Recently, I had a lesson about the story of “The Ugly Duckling”. If you recall it is the story of 5 ducklings that hatched 4 were yellow and cute. The other duckling was bigger gray and not as cute. In fact the “duckling” was told continually he was ugly. No matter who he made contact with he was told he was ugly. As you may remember when he met with a group of swans, he his his face in shame and isolated himself from everyone. In his isolation he grew and grew. Until one day a swan asked him why he was so shy? The duckling answered in what he believed to be truth. He was shy because he was an ugly duckling. The swan encouraged the duckling to look into the water to see himself as he truly was….a beautiful swan! Now I know many of you have heard this little story in your childhood, but teaching this story screamed out to me how often we believe what is spoken over us and the lies of the enemy.
With this in mind, I have come to understand at a deeper level, that nearly everything in our walk with Christ is dependent upon who we believe we are – our identity. These next few weeks let’s look, no let’s dig into the Word to see what the Word of God has to say about our identity.
Please bear in mind that a soldier can be equipped with the best of weapons, but if he/she doesn’t believe they have the authority to use those weapons, the soldier enters the battlefield at a great disadvantage.
So let’s begin this journey of discovering who does God say that I am. What authority do I have as a believer and follower of Jesus Christ? How do I fit into the Kingdom of God? Please be watchful for the next blog as we journey into throwing off the lies, the words and messages we tell ourselves. Beloved, you can get free from your past, from the lies and begin to walk out who God created you to be.
Father, help me to see myself as you do. I thank you that when I yield myself to you totally and completely, you will not leave me wanting. I desire to see myself as you see me. Help me Holy Spirit to change the lens of how I see myself and how I speak over myself. Help me by your Spirit to change my thoughts to line up with your word. I lay myself on your altar expecting your visitation. Change me. In Jesus’ name….Amen
I definitely needed this reminder!! Thank you Pastor Karen!
