Romans 5:3-5

And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces [a]perseverance; and perseverance, [b]character; and character, hope. Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

Glory in tribulations? Not an easy task at all. How often do we just want to get through the tribulation? But what we need to remember is those tribulations are necessary in order to produce a work within us. Romans 5:3-4 tells us those tribulations,i.e. problems, situations, circumstances have a purpose. The result of our problems something is produced, such as Perseverance: continued effort to do or achieve something despite difficulties.

Nevertheless, we are walking through our tribulations , God is working something out of us. God’s intent is to grow and perfect us. Philippians 1:6 “Being confident of this very thing, that he who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Jesus Christ.”

Persisting in this journey proves to develop within us character and hope. Our attitude makes all the difference when we are going through circumstances. Developing an attitude of “Nevertheless” can be exactly what we need to get us through to the other side. In spite of our circumstances, the ‘Nevertheless” attitude keeps us in a position for God to work within us. Our tribulations are never in vain.

When tribulations arise, with the confidence that comes from Christ, pray: “Nonetheless…. God is doing a work within me. I will not be moved by my circumstances. Thank you Father for growing in me character and hope through perseverance. Thank you God for loving me as you perfect me. Faithful and true are you Lord Jesus! AMEN!
