1 Peter 2:9 9But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.

This is a first in the series of My Identity is I am His. We see can see in the 1 Peter 2:9 scripture we get a glimpse of how God see’s us. But before we tear into this scripture too much, I want to park and visit the segment of this scripture, “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood…”To fully understand the significance of this scripture we need to look at how we fit into being chosen and part of a royal priesthood. The way we align ourselves is to be part of the Kingdom of God. The word kingdom is formed from King’s Dominion. We become part of the Kingdom of God by accepting Jesus not just as our Saviour but as our Lord. When we do allow Christ to be our Lord,we get access to what is available in the Kingdom of God.

To put this in a perspective of royalty…within the ranks of royalty there is a hierarchy. In that hierarchy comes authority-our authority. Because of the Kingdom, we can exercise authority to declare and decree over our circumstances.

Romans 8:17 17Now if we are children, then we are heirs-heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.

Joint-heir : a person who shares with another, or others, the right to inherit a person’s money, property, or title when that person dies

Doesn’t that make your heart do a little dance? When Christ is our Lord, we are placed in this realm of authority. Don’t you love the definition of joint-heir? We have the right to inherit….we have a title because of what Jesus did on the cross.Part of our identity comes from that God given title. We are a chosen people, royal priesthood and a holy nation. How exciting is that! But look at the next section, we are Gods special possession. Think on that for a moment. We are God’s special possession. We belong to HIM!

Father thank you for everything you did for me on the cross. Because of your sacrifice, I can walk, live and breath the Kingdom of God. I rejoice in you as I am a joint heir along with you. Help me to realize the authority you have entrusted to me according to your Word and to walk in the fullness of it. I ask that you help me to grow in my understanding of who I am in you. In Jesus name.
